By Order of the Peaky Blinders: Step Into the Shelby World at Black Country Living Museum

Flat caps at the ready. This autumn, one of the West Midlands’ most atmospheric attractions is turning back the clock to the 1920s for a night of live music, entertainment, food and unmistakable Peaky Blinders swagger.

The hugely popular Peaky Blinders Nights return to the Black Country Living Museum in Dudley, giving fans the chance to walk through genuine filming locations from the internationally successful television drama.

And this isn’t simply another Peaky Blinders-themed party. The Black Country Living Museum was actually used extensively during filming of the series, making an evening here about as close as most of us are ever likely to get to stepping directly into Tommy Shelby’s world.

Walk the Streets You’ve Seen on Screen

The Museum’s historic streets, industrial buildings, canal and workshops proved the perfect backdrop for the gritty world created by Birmingham-born writer Steven Knight.

Perhaps the most recognisable location is Charlie’s Yard, which appeared throughout all six series of Peaky Blinders. In real life, it’s the Museum’s historic boat dock and anchor forge, but fans will instantly recognise it as one of the drama’s most important recurring locations.

Elsewhere, the canal towpath has featured in numerous scenes, while Canal Street Bridge was used as the secret meeting place for Freddie Thorne and Ada Shelby in the first series.

During Peaky Blinders Night, visitors can explore these atmospheric streets after dark, with Blue Plaques identifying some of the key filming locations.

There will also be stories and performances unfolding around you throughout the evening, so keep your eyes open. In true Peaky fashion, you never quite know who might be lurking around the next corner.

Dress Like a Shelby

Part of the fun is dressing for the occasion.

Visitors are encouraged to arrive in their finest 1920s-inspired threads and frocks, so expect plenty of waistcoats, pocket watches, braces, dresses and, naturally, those famous flat caps.

Once inside, the Museum becomes an immersive evening of entertainment.

There’ll be live music, interactive performances and betting games, creating the atmosphere of a roaring 1920s night out. Rather than simply watching the entertainment from the sidelines, guests are encouraged to get involved, dance and become part of the experience.

It’s all set against the Museum’s remarkable historic backdrop of cobbled streets, old-fashioned shops, industrial buildings and traditional pubs.

Proper Black Country Food

All that dancing and dodging suspicious-looking characters is likely to work up an appetite.

Fortunately, there’ll be plenty of what the Museum describes as proper Black Country fittle on offer.

Expect hearty favourites including hot pork cobs, steak pie, sausage rolls and Scotch eggs, with the Museum’s historic pubs providing the opportunity to enjoy a pint and perhaps a bag of scratchings.

There are also outlets serving hot drinks for anyone driving the getaway car home.

A Genuine Piece of Peaky History

What makes this night particularly special is the relationship between Peaky Blinders and the Museum.

The two have been connected since the television series began in 2013, with the Museum providing locations for everything from tense meetings and shootings to funerals and dramatic confrontations.

It means you’re not walking through a recreation of the Peaky Blinders world — you’re standing in places where some of its most memorable scenes were actually filmed.

For fans wanting to explore even further, the Museum also runs official Peaky Blinders filming-location tours, led by costumed guides and featuring behind-the-scenes stories about filming at the site.
